Blogging for profit in your retirement years, I’ll tell you this, it is not hard to do, and it is actually rather simple to learn given you try. Here is how to make some money blogging and earn that extra income with it during those retirement years.
I know, blogging sounds and looks like a complicated mess of technical things that are probably hard to learn and use. Well, that is the bad side of your mind talking. Actually, more and more retirees are turning to the web, and to blogging. in particular, to make more money.
Here I wanted to help you see how simple it is, and what you need to get started today…
Blogging for Profit, in your golden years.
I could not just sit around in my retirement years, not when I still have so much to say, to contribute, and to share! And I am sure, since you are here right now, that you are like me, well, like many of us looking to stay productive in your retirement.
Well, blogging is a great way to do just that, have fun, share your life and all the knowledge you have gained through the years, and make money doing it!
Even non-writers for most of their lives are jumping in and giving blogging a try for earning that extra or a whole lot of income.
However, the reason some might be holding back is fear. Fear of technology, or just fear of failing with blogging, it is usually fear. Let me just say one thing, Quit Being Afraid!
Let the fear go and have some fun with a blog, after all, the most successful blogs out here were built on passion, interest, and fun to tell you the truth. It is not hard to learn WordPress, and little search engine optimization, and some blog promotion skills.
It really is easy for everyone and can be mastered in just a few weeks.
As a matter of fact, I am going to spell out the actual need-to-know bits and pieces below, plus share a little strategy to go with them.
The retirement home of my dreams.
Find the ole’ niche you’ll love.
Maybe you loved your lifelong career and want to talk about that, you wish to share your knowledge about it. Maybe you have a new hobby you are passionate about and want to share your journey with it.
Either way, what I am saying here is to go with your heart, not your gut, not your mind, and not some gurus voice online. Go with your heart, follow the passion when it comes to choosing your blog niche.
What is a niche blog? Well, here is the simple definition:
“Niche blogging is the act of creating a blog with the intent of using it to market to a particular niche market. Niche blogs may appeal to “geographic areas, a specialty industry, ethnic or age groups, or any other particular group of people.”
Like fly fishing, crochet, a travel blog about your state or city, or hunting. Each of those ideas is special niche subject examples you could choose from.
What do you like to do? What hobby could you share some ideas and tips on? What in your life up to this point are you passionate enough about to share with others?
Don’t be nervous, trust me, people want to know what you have to say! Let me say that again; “people really do want to hear what you have to say about your passions and interests in life.”
Instead of finding your niche, I suggest you find your passion and start there.
The right, no, the simple blogging platform.
Want to know a secret about me and my start online? I chose WordPress because it was not only the best and has the ability to scale over time, but in the end, it was easier, simpler to learn and master.
WordPress, not blogger, not Facebook Notes, or Tumblr, WordPress is easier to work with, especially when it comes to monetizing your new blog.
I know nothing is really “easy” at first, especially as a beginner here, but that does not mean it can’t be learned. You’ve probably said that to your children, your grandchildren perhaps, it simply takes a little bit of time, but no matter what it is, you can master it.

This includes blogging for profit with WordPress.
After a few days or so, you’ll see how simple building and managing a blog really is here with a little coaching and direction.
Growing blog subscribers is simple too.
In your retirement years, it is good to keep your blogging efforts simple, and this goes for your list building as well.
Now, just because you are keeping your blogging and sales funnel or list building simple will not mean you will give up on the “amount” of traffic you could see, or size of the list, not even close.
Keeping your sales funnel simple, and your email marketing can be extremely easy to do, and for the most part, automated.
A simple landing page, a great little free offer or ethical bribe, and sharing out your blog posts via your email marketing campaign as they are published is really easy and highly effective.
It’s all in the free offer and the content that brought your reader to it that builds a good sized list. And a decent list can mean some pretty serious cash flow, and as your list grows, so can the income.
Monetizing your blog.
From network marketing to affiliate marketing and simply just niche blogging about something you love, monetizing your blog is the easy part.
One of the simplest ways to monetize a blog, especially for retirees, is Adsense. What is Adsense? Well, here is the best definition:
“AdSense (Google AdSense) is an advertising placement service by Google. The program is designed for website publishers who want to display targeted text, video or image advertisements on website pages and earn money when site visitors view or click the ads.”
Of course, you can start your own network marketing business too! Then all you need is a simple blog that is there to build a simple brand and awareness around you and your products or services.
Affiliate marketing, like network marketing in a way, is simple to do, it works almost like Adsense in a way, but pays better, but not as good as network marketing, however.
I mean think about it; you are traveling around the country in your retirement years, and with a teardrop trailer in tow, start a travel blog and earn your gas money, and maybe a whole bunch more!
Retiring to the coast one day…
Promoting your own products and services is an excellent way to carry on making money with a blog through your retirement years. Love woodworking and making things? Sell them through your blog! Have that recipe book you wrote years ago? Sell it and more on your blog!
Native advertising, simply put, it is defined as:
“Material in an online publication which resembles the publication’s editorial content but is paid for by an advertiser and intended to promote the sponsor’s product.”
How you monetize your blog is completely up to you, the only thing it takes to truly earn with it is great content, and right about now, you have enough spare time to learn and do just that.
Good social connections & engagement matters.
Blogging for profit will require at least some amount of social media engagement and sharing.
Why? Well, it’s simply because this is where most people spend their time today, on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, or ask my wife about Pinterest! Ha! (She get’s a ton of recipes from there.)
Now I am not saying you need to be that crazy 20-something out here running around hollering in the streets and protesting with their face in a phone staring at themselves acting like lunatics on Facebook, not even close.
What I am saying is that you need to at least be on a couple channels sharing and carrying on conversations about your blog and topic.
Yes, even you, the retiree can handle a little Facebook or Instagram time, and maybe even some Pinterest!
I also recommend YouTube as not only a social channel but as a search engine marketing strategy for your blog. However, if you are nervous about making videos, give it a shot at least first before you say no.
Video marketing is one of the most powerful ways to generate fast blog traffic for new bloggers, and that includes you.
Creating content, and content planning.
Creating quality content is great, and creating it on a regular basis is brilliant.
Keep up with your social media, add some videos to your content, and stay engaged as often as you can. And, when it comes to blogging, blog often, and blog awesome!
Planning out your blog content is a good idea, however, planning it out too far can be, well, damaging on two fronts. They are:
- It creates boredom. After you have enough content ideas and titles saved, spontaneity suffers. I truly believe that inspiration (or spontaneity) matters when it comes to blogging, that is why I am never more than 3-4 ahead with content, ever. It gives me room for change, and play.
- It turns into work. Your blogging lifestyle should not be a reminder of what you just retired from, a life of work. Blogging should always be fun for those of you, especially when it comes to blogging for profit in your retirement years. You are done with work, so be done with it!
Staying consistent is the only “job” you really have with your blogging going forward. Simply put, all you need to do here is share the love and passion you have for your niche or new business, and on a consistently regular basis.
Don’t plan too far ahead, keep the spontaneity alive and do not ever let this turn into work-work, ever. It does not have to feel like a job, and yet, it can be extremely rewarding financially!
Earning extra income blogging by “your” sea.
Keep it simple and without the stupid. Follow your heart when it comes to choosing your niche, and follow what feels to be sound advice and marketing or blogging strategies here.
There are many, many voices here today that really, in the end, are new themselves and are simply regurgitating bad blogging and marketing advice.
Find a few simple voices that sound, well, honest, now follow them when it comes to your blogging and internet marketing efforts.
After that, give it some time to grow, be patient as you have with most things in your life that were fruitful, and watch yourself soon start profiting from blogging in those golden years…
